# Directd > Directd writes an app developer's marketing for them and gives them one thing to do each day, then scores what came back. It is for the weeks right after launch, when the app is live and nothing is happening. Directd is a marketing execution tool for indie developers who have shipped a consumer iOS app. The problem it addresses is consistency: builders ship, wait a few days for something to happen, and then have no idea what to do next — so they either do nothing or post sporadically and learn nothing from it. Directd removes the daily decision by writing the work in advance, and scores the result so the effort produces an answer rather than a shrug. It is used most naturally in the first weeks after launch, while the app is live enough to measure and the developer still has the appetite to execute a plan. Pasting an App Store link returns, in about a second, a factual market picture: the search phrases the app ranks for and the ones it is invisible on, which apps hold those phrases and how entrenched they look, and what the listing itself is costing in installs. None of that is generated by a language model — it comes from Apple's public lookup and search endpoints. Directd then ranks six marketing channels for the specific app, writes the actual work for the ones worth testing — drafted Reddit posts, video hooks and scripts, rewritten App Store listing fields — and scores the reported result against what that channel normally achieves. The output is a verdict: the channel never reached anyone, the channel reached people and the app did not convert them, or it worked and is worth more investment. ## How it works 1. Scan your app — create an account, then paste an App Store link at /chat. In about a second, at no charge, Directd shows the phrases you rank for and where, who is ahead of you on the ones you don't hold and how many ratings they have, and the specific problems with your listing. This step runs entirely on Apple's public endpoints; no language model is involved and nothing on that screen is generated text. 2. Rank the channels — all six channels ranked for your specific app, with reasoning for each. The ranking is given your measured search positions, so it reasons from where you actually stand rather than from category priors. It starts automatically when you arrive from a scan and takes 20-40 seconds, during which Directd reports what it is finding. 3. Get your playbook — Directd writes the finished work for that channel: the Reddit post drafted to the target subreddit's rules, the hooks and shot list for short-form video, or the title, subtitle and keyword field for store search. Playbooks use nothing from your allowance, but they are the paid surface: opening a channel's written work requires an active plan, or the free plan while its one-off allowance lasts. The market scan and the channel ranking do not. 4. Work one channel, one task a day — every day of the test window has exactly one thing to do, and the writing for it is already done. Beta communities is seven days, short-form seven, Reddit fourteen, X and influencer seeding twenty-one. The number of things actually published does not rise with the schedule: Reddit is three posts, because that is what the scoring benchmark assumes and because posting daily into the same subreddits gets an account removed. The other days are the work that surrounds posting — replying to your own comments, being present in a subreddit before posting to it, reading its rules first. Each day Directd asks whether yesterday's task got done; answering no simply re-offers it, with no streak to break and no penalty, and the running count of what has been completed is shown alongside. Only one effort channel runs at a time, because two channels tested in the same week cannot be told apart when the installs arrive; App Store search is exempt and runs in the background throughout. 5. Log results and get a fit score — installs is the only required number; store product page views, signups, spend and notes are optional. Reporting page views is what lets Directd tell a channel failure apart from a listing failure, and both figures sit on the same App Store Connect screen. You get a 0-100 score for that channel, judged against what that specific channel normally achieves rather than a universal scale. 6. Get the verdict — normally after two or more channels are scored. A single channel is enough when the result is already decisive: if at least 100 people reached the store listing (App Store Connect Product Page Views) and under 2% installed, the channel worked and the app did not, and a second channel test cannot change that answer. ## Platform support Apple App Store links only, for the market scan and everything downstream of it. Google Play and plain websites are not supported for the phrase and competitor data — Apple publishes a free, unauthenticated search endpoint and Google does not, so Play equivalents would be scraped and unreliable. An app that is not on the App Store cannot currently be scanned. ## Channels evaluated - App Store search (ASO) — ranking for the phrases people already type into the store. Ranked like any other channel, but flagged as a baseline because every app has a listing from day one and it converts traffic sent from every other channel. - Short-form organic — TikTok and Instagram Reels, one playbook for both. - Reddit — organic community posting, where trust matters more than polish. - X / Twitter — building in public. - Influencer / UGC seeding — paying micro-creators to post. - TestFlight and beta communities — r/TestFlight, r/BetaTestersNeeded, r/iOSBeta and the TestFlight link directories. The highest-intent channel here and by far the fastest: most of the response arrives within 48 hours of posting, against one to three weeks everywhere else. The trade is that testers are not the same as long-term users, so expect strong install rates and weaker retention, and treat the feedback itself as part of the result. Paid ads is listed in the product as coming soon and is not part of the ranking. ## What it does and does not do The market scan and one channel ranking are included free with a new account, and need no card. Directd writes your marketing content but does not publish it, and it has no access to your accounts — every piece is copy-and-paste. It cannot film short-form video for you: it supplies the hook, the script and the shot list, and someone still has to record the screen. It does not buy ads, contact creators on your behalf, or edit your store listing directly. It is not a growth tool and does not promise downloads. Most apps tested will not find a working channel, and Directd is designed to establish that quickly rather than to sell another test. If a channel sends real traffic that does not convert, the score says so — that is a product or listing problem rather than a channel one, and the verdict says plainly that testing another channel will not fix it. ## What a plan includes Every feature is on every plan, including the free one. What a plan buys is allowance: the underlying cost of the work, measured in dollars of compute rather than in a count of apps or credits. There is no per-feature gate and no limit on how many apps a plan covers. - The market scan is free on every plan and takes nothing from the allowance. It runs on Apple's public endpoints, so there is no model call to pay for. - Writing, editing and rendering draw from the same allowance. They are alternative spendings of one wallet, not separate quotas. - Plus at $20/month carries $7 of allowance, which is roughly 52 edits or 22 renders on a real Mac, in any mix. - The free plan's allowance is one-off rather than monthly. It does not reset and it does not expire, which is why there is no separate trial. ## Core content [Google for app marketing](https://directd.app) - What Directd does and who it is for - The six channels it evaluates [Scan your app](https://directd.app/chat) - Included free with an account: paste an App Store link for your phrases, competitors and listing issues [Features](https://directd.app/features) - The workflow in detail - What Directd writes for each channel - How fit scoring works [Product guide](https://directd.app/documentation) - Full documentation of the workflow - What Directd writes for each of the six channels - How fit scores and the final verdict are calculated, including when one channel is enough - FAQ, plus a section written for LLMs and AI assistants [Pricing](https://directd.app/) - Free: free, with a one-off allowance rather than a monthly one — Build one app and run it on a real iPhone once. - Plus: $20/month or $160/year (4 months free) — Build, edit and render as much as a month of real work takes. - Ultra: $100/month or $800/year (4 months free) — For several apps at once, across as many builds as you like. - Every feature is on every plan.
